Spoiler Alert for those shmucks who aren’t caught up.
I think Kim is a very frightened person. She lives her life in almost constant fear at Shibusen up until the point that she’s outed as a which, and that’s probably why she tries so hard to be so harsh to those around her. She’s got this big secret, and I think she feels like it’s a physical barrier between her, and the rest of Shibusen/the DWMA’s students.
I feel like Ox, and Jacqueline scared her at first. Well in all do fairness Ox would scare almost anyone. That kid’s kind of creepy. This was probably because she was afraid of them wanting to get to know her for the superficial Kim Diehl, and not who she actually was. She probably felt like they’d recoil from her like everyone always had.
I find it interesting that she feels money is the one thing she can rely on, but then again, thinking about a thirteen, or fourteen-year-old girl on her own in the world before she made her way to DC, that would honestly be the only thing she had. The cash in her pocket.
It was also mentioned that she was an outcast among witches, and I can’t help but wonder if her parents allowed her to go through the kind of bullying she must have endured without batting an eye. But then again, maybe in which society you’re left to fend for yourself.
But once she does trust, and trust completely, she seems to be in it for the long run. Her relationship with Jacqueline seems to be exceptionally strong. As most meister/weapon relationships are. And I don’t think she’d give it up for anything. She also seems to care a good deal for Kilik, and Ox, although Harvar is kind of questionable.
Since she returned from Arachnophobia though, she seems to be a lot more at home, and a lot more herself. She seems to have dropped a bit of the angry facade, and is allowing people to get to know her. I hope we continue to see this kind of development, and that the other students’ biases don’t make her run back into her shell.
